Stupid Pinterest #5

uncategorized

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared with you an absolutely moronic Pinterest pin I’ve stumbled upon, but have no fear… here I am to share the “best” of the internet with you.

People like life hacks. They like knowing how to be resourceful and innovative. I get that.

But sometimes we need to think big picture, people.

Like here’s a really terrible life hack:

STUPID PINTEREST // stephanieorefice.net

You might be like “no! This makes SO MUCH SENSE! The money rolls up easily and nobody would think to steal a tube of chapstick!”

True.

Except you know why they wouldn’t steal a tube of chapstick?

PROBABLY BECAUSE THEY WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO FIND IT.

Seriously! How many of us own ONE tube of chapstick and know where it is at all times?

Chapstick is the 2nd most disposable beauty item in my routine (the first one would be BOBBY PINS, CAN I GET AN AMEN?), and it’s one I actually EXPECT to lose before I’m able to finish it. Just saying.

Am I the only one who thinks that hiding emergency money in an empty tube of chapstick is stupid?

  1. Exactly right–Chapstick is WAY too easy to lose. I think about stuff like that when I watch HGTV and some hotshot designer is like “painting stripes on your wall is an easy upgrade”…THAT THE NEXT BUYER WILL NOT WANT. No one walks in a space and is like, “stripes?! Now I’ll pay more!”

  2. In my experience, I find hoards or Chapstick years later at the bottom of a purse caked with Rolaid powder and old gum….so in my case, perhaps emergency Chapstick money would turn into surprise gross money found years later!
But really, has anyone ever finished a tube before it gets lost? I once emptied one…in the washing machine/dryer and it left grease stains all over my favourite Mighty Mouse t-shirt.

    So yeah. Pinterest fail.

    1. Oh gosh but imagine if you’d lost a chapstick with money in it and kept finding a bunch of random chapstick that ended up being just chapstick. you’d get your hopes up every time!

i’ve finished ONE tube of chapstick. it took like 5 years, and i kept losing it but it was overpriced and i was so determined! sorry about your mighty mouse shirt, btw.

  3. so, so true!!!! i saw a similar pin putting money in an emply floss container… which is a little bit bigger… but still seems like too much work for me!!

    1. and who even finishes floss containers on the regular? maybe i’m just crazy and i always own like 6 of them because i take them EVERYWHERE but man. so much work. how about you just put it in your wallet and keep track of that like you normally do? haha.

  4. I’d never thought about losing the chapstick… but now that you pointed that out it makes SO much sense. I’m not a money hider anyway.

  5. Every time I see this pin I always wonder how people get their money out of the tube once they get it in! I feel like it could end up being a pain. Plus who wants to take the time to actually clean the entire tube out??

    1. GOOD CALL!! AND you’d have to pull it all out at once, which could be silly if there’s big bills. and true that about cleaning it out. i bet it would take so much work.

  6. I usually throw my chapstick away with a little bit of it still left because it doesn’t come out and onto your lips! That or I lose it, of course.

I’ve also seen one that says to put your wallet/keys/phone in an unused diaper at the beach…but I feel like leaving that out on the beach is just asking for someone to throw it away! I mean, I’m not gonna pick up a diaper that is presumably dirty, but what if a clean-up crew with those poker things comes by?? Or even someone you’re with doesn’t realize you did that and just is trying to be nice and throws the diaper away. Plus I don’t have kids soooo a diaper hiding spot would just be odd.

    1. BAHAHAHAH OMG WHAT i have NEVER even heard of that!!!! the diaper thing is SO WEIRD. how suspicious is that… just hanging out at the beach with my girls and this diaper. that would cramp my style man. so weird.
