Y’all, I am struggling.
This month was rough.
I didn’t get paid for my vacation time for 4 days after payday, which threw off all of my automatic payments and stuff. and I had a hard time recovering from that.
IN ADDITION to that, I got a bill from my dentist for $190 that hadn’t been covered by insurance. WHAAAT. I spent a lot more at the grocery store because of Whole 30. I went to Target twice – once for a baby shower gift and once for… well, the sad thing is I DON’T REMEMBER. Oh yeah. A candle and face wash and some other things. I was just all over the place.
and you know how sometimes when everything feels all over the place and chaotic, it’s REALLY hard to find your footing?
That’s how I’ve felt all month.

I already wrote about the goals I have for October. Right before I started writing this post, I paid my dentist bill with my credit card, paid it off with money in my savings, and now I’m putting my credit card in a safe place out of my wallet. Goal #1 accomplished. Now to keep it there 🙂

September has been rough for us too – car in the shop, random expenses, being overwhelmed by our schedule and eating out because of convenience. We are tightening our belt in October and gong to get back on track.
Also, Whole 30 is so great but so freaking expensive.
Also, I am decidedly off of the Whole 30/Paleo train. I gotta get that going again too. Here’s to beginning again.
i can’t wait until we’re both (me and the batista family, that’s the both haha) able to keep our heads above water for a few months and do some damage to our debts.
& yeah why does good food cost so much? ugh. i’m glad that after this paleo will be a piece of (gluten/dairy free) cake.
Debt repayment is definitely a marathon, not a sprint. The important thing is to pick yourself back up and keep going!
yeah!!!! thanks for the encouragement!!! that’s why i’m so glad i post these things on my blog – accountability and encouragement to KEEP GOING.
So my student loan payment every month is automatic and is $213.53. I decided to look at my payment history (mostly to see what my balance is). I wanted to start sobbing when I saw that like $150 of my payment every month goes towards INTEREST and the rest goes towards the principle. I’m like UM WHAT?! EXCUSE ME?! I probably won’t pay anything extra towards it until after the wedding/we’re living in a cheaper apartment. And then I’d just probably rather put my money into savings for a down payment on a house. Debt is dumb.
oh my GOSH mattie. i feel like you should really figure out a way to get rid of that as quick as possible. how much longer will you be paying that student loan? that’s $1,800 a year and depending on how long you’re paying it, it might actually BE the down payment of a house. debt is SO dumb!
I had trouble this month with debt repayment too. I went online shopping… bad idea….
i’m so grateful to have no problem with online shopping… okay maybe except where etsy is concerned, but i like thrifting so i never buy clothes or anything like that online. if i did… man… i’d have trouble freaking EVERY month! were you able to at least move forward, though?
Yes! I was still able to put some money down on my credit card.
Way to lower your debt! Some months you can’t do anything more than the bare minimum and plug along. You’re tracking everything though and are aware, so you’re miles ahead of so many people. Good luck!
yeah! i keep reminding myself that like 8 months ago i would have still been making $75/month payments on the credit line i’ve already paid off, and i wouldn’t be keeping track of it at all… so i’m at least headed the right direction!
I think bad months are just part of the process. Don’t let it get you down and get you off track, and you’ll make it.
THANK YOU for this encouragement!… i was honestly kind of beating myself up a little bit over it, but one bump in the road doesn’t constitute giving up!
Your debt is still decreasing so that’s great! Just take this bad month as a smaller step than usual in getting your debt paid off. I’ll be rooting for you to achieve your October goals!
yay!! thank you so much for the encouragement <3 it's been so helpful to hear people tell me to just keep going and not give up, which is what i would have done in the past.
Some months are better than others. That car is a real millstone; any way to get rid of it?
i actually really really really love my car. and the interest rate is 3.14%. i live with my mom, so i don’t have many other expenses. one of my friends suggested selling the car and getting a cheaper one, but i absolutely love my prius (and the money i save in gas)
