A few moons ago, I wrote a blog all about why I love naked mole rats. I absolutely, positively still adore those bald little creatures and long for the day I can hold one in my hands.
But let me tell you all about this amazing creature I’ve been fascinated by many times this past year: THE GIANT SQUID. and yes, I feel the need to write it in all caps because holy CRAP this thing is amazing, and I cannot imagine it moving through the ocean without some dark, scary, ominous sound with it.
Here’s the first picture ever taken of a live GIANT SQUID when it was captured in Japan:
LOOK AT THAT EYE, STARING INTO YOUR SOUL! Their eyes are the size of BASKETBALLS.
They have beaks. THEY HAVE BEAKS, HOW WEIRD IS THAT?
This, however, should not be confused with the COLOSSAL SQUID, pictured below being caught.
Now, I think these things are scary/creepy as all heck, HOWEVER it is so phenomenal that they exist on the same planet we do, lurking around the depths of the ocean (shudder – I HATE DEEP OCEAN!) as I speak.
Moving on to some on-land pictures.
Also, I am so excited for this…
Tomorrow at Faith, there’s a night for the ladies. and I’m going. and it will be my first non-regular church activity with Faith Community Church, and I feel the need for it right now. I wish it was tonight. Excited to hear what Marguerite Reeve has to say to us.
there is a large giant squid that lives underneath the tacoma narrows bridge.. just another reason why the NW is awesome.
Oh my gosh… this entry is scaring me a little, haha 🙂 I feel bad that so many of them are being captured, but these pictures are still freakin’ me out! I want them to stay in the hidden depths of the ocean.
OH. MY.
I do not even know what to think about this. I watched the Disney documentary “Oceans” last night, and they just showed pretty pictures of colorful fish and graceful dolphins, not this!!!!!
