Why I couldn’t sleep last night.

* I definitely overused the word “precious” in what you are about to read. and this is what life is like in my head… which means it might not make any sense. *

It all started with Andrew.
Andrew is my friend who lives in Washington {where I finally live again!} that I have missed a lot in my time away.
and he is FUNNY.

I like laughing, so I like people who make me laugh.
and he is FUNNY. but I said that already.

Last Monday at Bible Study he somehow got on the subject of his favorite book, Rascal. He kept talking about it and it came up a few times over the course of the evening.

The next day I was killing time by indulging in one of my favorite hobbies: going to thrift stores and acquiring Madeleine L’Engle books. I don’t need anymore, I swear. Lots of multiple copies. But as I was looking at the kids books, I saw the book Rascal. and naturally I had to get it and read it, because if someone like Andrew speaks so highly of this book, then I must read it.

I’m only slightly ashamed that I stayed up until 1 am yesterday reading to see what happened to young Sterling and his pet raccoon. after sadly closing the book and wondering if that was really the end, I started thinking about how much I’d like a pet raccoon. I tried to go to sleep, wondering about what one must do to obtain a pet raccoon.

I turned my computer on, looked at the local humane society and felt so overwhelmed with sadness about all of the animals with no owners. I looked at the small animals, rats and mice, and thought about how much I do love little furry creatures.

Then I remembered something that happened a few years ago.

I owned a precious little rat. She liked to read the Bible with me.

Her name was Daisy, and she was the most precious little rat you’ve ever seen…

One day she was not acting normal. Mei-Ling was with me. We took her to the vet. She died in the waiting room. It was incredibly traumatic, and many tears were shed on my part.

Shortly after, my dad said he’d saw an ad in the paper for a baby chinchilla and had thought of buying it for me, but decided it was too soon after Daisy’s passing for me to welcome a new pet.

However, ever since I saw one of those precious animals I’ve wanted one. Have you ever seen a chinchilla? They are adorable. Don’t believe me? That’s alright, here’s a picture:

How PRECIOUS is that animal? Look at its tail! and its long whiskers! and big ears!

Oh, I’m sorry.. did you want to see what a baby chinchilla looks like?

I must have one.

I absolutely must have a chinchilla.

Last night as I was laying in bed, I began making plans for acquiring my own pet chinchilla. I would have to wait until after camp, obviously. and how big should its cage be? Where in my room could I put the cage?

Could I get one of those awful small dog bags and carry a chinchilla in it everywhere I went?

Are chinchillas as smart as raccoons, or should I just try to get a pet raccoon?

Because baby raccoons are cute… as seen in this video:

The compiling of pictures for this post turned into “Why I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

Thank you, Andrew. This is all your fault! Now go get a baby raccoon so I can play with it!
