Empties v. 5

empties beauty + fashion

Get ready for this, everyone.Less than two months after my last Empties post, I’m doing another one. Unstuffing has really started to seep into many areas of my life. As I was quickly organizing the cabinet under my sink, I threw out some REALLY old body sprays… we’re talking… 2001. FOURTEEN YEARS. I’ve had them FOURTEEN YEARS!!!!! Madness, I’m telling you.

Then I realized I had a smallish pile of empty things, and since I’d been hoping to do a post monthly or bi-monthly, it was due time for me to share with you the products I’ve gone through in the past two months!

Some of these I completely finished and some of them I just decided it was time to retire.

TRAVEL WITCH HAZEL // amazon
I use witch hazel like it’s the world’s greatest thing. Normally I mix it with lemon juice and keep it in a travel bottle, but I saw this cute little size and FREAKED OUT. It was perfect to throw in the overnight bag I keep with me all the time.
Replace? Yes.

SUKI FOAMING CLEANSER // birchbox
I received a little tiny jar of this as a sample in my Birchbox a few months ago, which I wrote about in my last Empties post. This cleanser is going to become a staple for me because I LOVE how happy the smell makes me and how fun it is to use. If you ever want to have a sleepover, I’ll bring this. It’s awesome. Oh. and the jar is glass, so I definitely am cleaning it out to use for keeping my honey-cinnamon-nutmeg mask.
Replace? Yes.

BURT’S BEES INTENSE HYDRATION CREAM CLEANSER // target
Y’all I am a sucker for travel sized things, which is why I bought this cleanser that I’ll probably never use again. I have no real complaints about it just that I only bought it because it was small.
Replace? No.

PURE BODY NATURALS VITAMIN C SERUM // amazon
I first tried this serum last year, and I really enjoyed it – it made my skin feel rejuvenated and refreshed, but it was never oily or shiny. I started getting a lot of serums/moisturizers in my Birchboxes so I started trying those out more faithfully and lost interest in this Vitamin C Serum. If I were at a place where I wasn’t overwhelmed with samples, this might be a little more beneficial to me but for the time being, I didn’t mind that it was gone.
Replace? Perhaps someday.

NEUTROGENA NATURALS FRESH CLEANSING + MAKEUP REMOVER // target
This cleanser/makeup remover came into my life at about the same time the Garnier oil one that I wrote about in my last post did. I’m all in with the Garnier one. It is effective and awesome, and so this Neutrogena one was a little lackluster for me. The Garnier one is my daily makeup remover, and this Neutrogena one was kept in my shower. I don’t hate it at all, but I SWEAR BY the Garnier oil remover.
Replace? No.

LOVE & BEAUTY SHIMMER BLUSH // forever21
Sometimes I forget that I’m not an 8th grade girl, and I make 8th grade girl makeup decisions, like buying a shimmer blush. I’ve been faithfully using it but I swear to you IT NEVER GETS USED UP. So I finally decided to just quietly part ways.
Replace? No.

“LITTLE BLACK DRESS” MASCARA BY ONE DIRECTION // amazon
Awhile ago I was given the opportunity to review the Up All Night makeup collection by One Direction. One of the items was this mascara – the rest of it was BRIGHT colors that I could probably never use. I used this mascara for awhile, but eventually I found a few other mascaras I liked better and didn’t want to keep this one around for another year or so 🙂
Replace? No.

CARESS PASSIONATE SPELL BODY WASH // amazon
I loooove the smell of this. It’s a bit of a staple for me, though I recently started using a more earthy, natural smelling body wash and I might be switching over to that. OR! I should learn how to make my own, that would be awesome.
Replace? Probably

PURA D’OR LAVENDER VANILLA CONDITIONER // amazon
I was doing a great job at being no-poo for a long time, and then… I got lazy. oh and I discovered this REALLY GREAT shampoo and conditioner. Naturally, the conditioner went first because #conditioner. I absolutely loved this conditioner – the smell was so relaxing and it made my hair feel really soft but not too weighed down or oily. It’s a little expensive as far as conditioners go, but if I plow through my little tiny shampoo samples and get back into my no-poo/occasional hair product routine, then this is mine.
Replace? Maybe.

EOS SHAVE CREAM POMEGRANATE RASPBERRY // target
Love. I first bought this back in 2011, and it’s been a staple. I couldn’t find it a few weeks ago and I got the Aveeno kind, and it just doesn’t compare. I love the smell of it and obviously the color of it 😉 and I hope to one day try the other two kinds.
Replace? DEFINITELY.

OXFORD SICILIAN ORANGE BODY LOTION //
Yeah I got this at a hotel…. (6/50 smelly things)
Replace? No, and I couldn’t anyway.

BEE KIND BODY LOTION // birchbox
This was another Birchbox sample. I absolutely LOVED the fresh smell of it and the way it didn’t make me feel all greasy. It’s great. But enough to replace? Probably not, because I have enough lotion until Jesus comes back. (6.5/50 smelly things)
Replace? No.

OROFLUIDO BEAUTY ELIXIR // amazon
Um… I got this as a sample in OCTOBER 2012. AND I ONLY JUST USED IT UP! AYE AYE AYE. See my sample problem? It’s real. I’m working on it, though! I LOVED the smell of this on my hair. It did a good job of making my hair shiny without looking oily.
Replace? No; it wasn’t anything spectacular.

FRIZZ-EASE BEYOND SMOOTH CONDITIONER // target
I got this (and the shampoo + smoothing cream) in an Influenster VoxBox and as was to be expected, the conditioner went first. I actually really liked this conditioner; the smell isn’t as calming as the Pura D’or conditioner I just finished, but it made my hair feel really smooth, which is exactly what it advertises 🙂
Replace? MAYBE.

PERLIER INTENSIVE BODY BALM // birchbox
Another one from Birchbox. I REALLY liked this one – even more than the Bee Kind one. The balm is really creamy and thick and isn’t greasy but is incredibly moisturizing. I’m a big fan. It’s definitely not a lotion, it’s more of a balm. Big fan. Buuuut I don’t need any more.
Replace? No.

6.5/50 smelly things for my 101 in 1001.

  1. I also have a love for small things and have to stop myself from buying them when I don’t really need them. But, THEY’RE SO CUTE!!!! And…my shampoo goes first. I have like three bottles of conditioner with no matching shampoo. Weird.

I am feeling the need to “unstuff” as well, so your posts have been inspiring!

    1. it’s this whole girl struggle… we also love babies and puppies and kittens and LITTLE TINY THINGS, WHAT THE HECK!!! haha. your shampoo goes first!?!? what am i doing wrong?

also maybe we should ultra unstuff and have a garage sale to also help with debt repayment just saying!!!!

  2. Still haven’t bought that Garnier oil. I actually recently tried coconut oil on my face and I’m obsessed with it. It removes all my makeup so well annnd my face feel so moisturized and hydrated. Also you’ve done no poo? As in wash with water and baking soda and condition with apple cider vinegar? I’ve been so tempted to try! …But then I buy more shampoo and conditioner and feel like I have to use that up first.

    1. oh i LOOOOOVE coconut oil. i’m a bit of a snob about what kind i use (what kind do you use?) and it’s expensive and i’m waiting for it to go on sale again. plus the coconut oil makes my eyes soooo droopy. my eyes are really sensitive to things. the garnier oil doesn’t do that to my eyes.

&& yes!!! that’s what i do!! when i initially started (and what i’ll end up doing once i get through these shampoo samples… i have a hard time thinking about how i’ll probably get MORE and then they’ll pile up and i’ll drown underneath them all) i just slowly started spacing out the shampooing. some people cold turkey it and then they have ultra greasy hair. i would just go from every other day washing to every 3 days and then every 4, and then every 5 or so and in the middle i’d wash with baking soda. oh. and i completely cut out the conditioner immediately and went to the ACV rinse. i keep shampoo handy because sometimes i really need the feeling of sudsing it up, haha. you should try it! like do the slow phase thing. i loved it. it saved me money and made me feel ultra granola, which is the intended outcome of that i’m sure. haha.

      1. I use the same kind as you! I’ve only bought it once and I posted it and I was like, “you can buy it here, but all kinds are probably the same” and you commented saying it was your favorite kind ever! So I assume it’s the one you use. 🙂

I wash my hair and then go two days without (using dry shampoo). Maybe I should start and just alternate between the no poo and my regular shampoo/conditioning. I’ll seriously try anything to make my hair not so awful! I don’t even heat style and it’s just limp and damaged! I’m all for saving money and feeling ultra granola! Haha.

        1. OH! YEAH! haha. yes that’s the VERY BEST KIND!!

it’s worth a try, right? you could even document it for your blog! i’m all about like “OOOH THAT WOULD BE A COOL BLOG POST” haha

  3. what do you use witch hazel for? and i love bodywash that smells good! (despite the fact that until recently i was like “washing my hair counts as washing my body because where does all that shampoo runoff go? exactly”). haha i’m super gross and i recognize that now. 🙂

    1. i use witch hazel as a face toner!

…wait. no that shampoo thing is actually so brilliant. just kinda rub it in as it runs off. hahahahahahahahaha. i’m actually about to start laughing sitting here in starbucks.

  4. Have you been able to find the Oxford Sicilian Orange body lotion anywhere? I have it from the hotel as well and want to purchase more but I’m not sure where to buy it..
