Empties v. 2

empties beauty + fashion

Oh my gosh.  This post is really overdue. So overdue that there’s another post of the very same nature waiting to be posted and I realized I never posted this… from AUGUST! Today as I was cramming empty bottles into the box I keep them in to blog about later, I decided that at the end of each month I’ll do one of these blog posts. Carly’s blog is where I first saw this – basically you just post about the products you’ve used up and your thoughts on them.

I haven’t shared an empties post since MAY of 2014! Oh my gosh. Let’s get down to business.

Bath & Body Works Sweet Pea shower gel.

I tend to have a lot of Bath & Body works stuff because there’s an outlet on the way to camp and I stock up. But I’ve been trying to break that habit. Sweet pea is a fun, girly scent.
Replace? I bought a second one so I kinda did, but I won’t again.

Caress Passionate Spell Body Wash

I forgot all about this and I’m almost out of body wash and this smells SOOOO GOOOOOD.
Replace? YES!

Bain de Terre keratin phyto-protein STRENGTHENING SULFATE-FREE SHAMPOO

I got this in my Birchbox one month. I don’t like testing out shampoos and conditioners because #1 I don’t use them and #2 even if I did there’s never enough to know how I feel about it.
Replace? No.

Peter Lamas Soy & Baobab Shampoo

I received this to review, and I really liked it. But in the time that I was using this shampoo and conditioner, I transitioned into being primarily no shampoo.
Replace? No.

Satin Care Shave Gel

Ugh I hate these kinds of shaving cream. I actually use an epilator so I don’t need to shave as often so I have since stopped being cheap and have purchased a shaving cream I like more. and once I run out of the EOS kind I’m using now, I’m investing in the Whish kind.
Replace? No.

Witch Hazel

Um so every day I use a toner made up of witch hazel and lemon juice, so I go through this stuff like crazy. I was in desperate need of some and Target only had their store brand so I had to make do.
Replace? I have, though I prefer other brands.

St. Ives Naturally Smooth moisturizer thing

Ugh I need to stop buying travel sized things.  I didn’t like this. I don’t remember why. I just know I didn’t.
Replace? NO.

Bath & Body Works Pink Chiffon lotion

Yes please. I love this smell.  My problem is I just love things that smell pretty so then I buy a bunch of small sizes of them and then I have a gazillion of them and I get overwhelmed with choices. But I do love this one.
Replace? No, just because I need to STOP.

Olay Luscious Orchid Body Lotion

You know what else I used to be REALLY BAD at?? Buying things the day after Christmas. I’d think “well I’ll eventually need lotion, so I might as well buy these four gift sets at 1/2 off that each have a lotion” and then I’m stuck with lotion that I don’t like FOREVER. This year I resisted and bought nothing! I’m getting better.
Replace? No.

Derma E Very Clear Acne Scrub

This was featured in my last Empties post. I originally got this cleanser as a freebie in the Birchbox shop, and I LOVED it. I decided to take it a step further and invest in the kind that is made specifically for acne prone skin… and I regretted it. I had purchased the regular kind again before this bottle had even run out so that I could slowly phase it out. I love the original.
Replace? Not the Acne one.

Peter Lamas Moisturizer

As you can see, the moisturizer wasn’t even empty. But as I’d written in my review, it was too liquidy. and I grew to hate the smell. So I decided that I needed to get rid of it because it was taking up valuable space in my already too cluttered bathroom.
Replace? No.

Juice Beauty Oil-Free Moisturizer

From my Birchbox. This was part of why I gave up on the Peter Lamas one.. I FELL IN LOVE with this moisturizer and suddenly I realized what a moisturizer is supposed to do. This little tube lasted me awhile, and it’s been sitting in my Birchbox “favorites” ever since. One day I’ll take the plunge and buy it.

Simple Revitalizing Eye Roller

This was Birchbox as well. The whole idea is you rub it under your eyes and it’s cooling and wakes you up or helps you fall asleep and reduces the dark circles and lines and stuff. It felt really good to roll under my eyes, but I don’t think it did much aside from feel good.
Replace? No.

Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer sample

Weird to think that three years ago I SWORE BY Proactiv. My face, while not completely clear, is clearer than it was when I used Proactiv and I use way less products on it. It’s the witch hazel and lemon juice I’m telling you. I always liked the smell of this moisturizer but got the idea that if I purchased the full sized one of it, I’d hate it.  Plus then I broke up with proactiv.
Replace? No.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Night Cream

I think I got this from Influenster to sample. and I really liked it. I like the idea of applying something to my face before I go to bed. It makes me feel like a grown up because I feel like that’s what women in movies and TV shows do. But I don’t think it really did much for me. I’d rather just apply coconut oil. because then it smells perfect.
Replace? No.

CitreShine Repair Spray

You know what started my product hoarding problem? When I was younger, I discovered Big Lots. and suddenly I was like “look at all of these things I can buy for a slightly lower price.” and I bought all the things. and I’ve been trying to use all the things. This was one of them. It didn’t do much for me.
Replace? No.

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle

ALL THE YES! This is in my Birchbox Favorites. I absolutely LOVE the smell. Since I don’t use conditioner in favor of apple cider vinegar sometimes my hair smells like BUTT when I get out of the shower. ACV smells nasty. But I spray on some of this stuff, wrap my hair, and then it smells wonderful AND I know that my hair is protected if I should use a curling iron or straightener.
Replace? Already did!

100% Pure Fruit Infused Mascara

Also in my Birchbox faves! I LOVED that it smells like fruit – I’d always sniff it before applying it. I’ve recently acquired a lot of mascara, so I don’t need to buy this again but I really love it and it’s at the top of my list when I need to replace some old mascara.
Replace? Eventually

Liz Earle Cleanser

No. It came with Muslin cloths so I was expecting an experience like when I used the Eve Lom cleanser awhile ago. Let me tell you… the Eve Lom cleanser is something I think about ALL THE TIME. When I finally spend the freaking $80 on that cleanser, I am going to tell EVERYONE ABOUT IT. I was hoping this would be awesome since it used muslin cloths too, but… nope.
Replace? No.

Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm

The only beauty product I use EVERY SINGLE DAY. Literally every day. It’s my favorite. I never imagined I’d be the kind of person who was willing to spend $34 on a beauty product, but I don’t even think twice every time I order this. I always have one that I’m currently using and then one ready for when the one I’m using runs out. Because I refuse to go without this.
Replace? Already have multiple times.

It’s so weird.. I don’t think of myself as a person who uses or tries a lot of products, but I guess I do! I’ve grown a lot – I no longer stock up just on whatever is on sale but have started to invest in things I really love and replace those. It will take a little bit before I’m completely through with the stuff I don’t love as much. But once that’s gone, it’ll be exciting to really share the things I love and have been trying out because I won’t have so many options.

  1. I love this! What a great idea. It’s great to hear from someone who actually used the product completely, rather than just a trial or two. I also used to try to stock up and buy on sale, but now that I know what I really like–it also seems like the more expensive stuff can last a lot longer, too. Maybe I’m just more careful?

  2. Love these posts! I just started a bag to save mine again! The Juice Beauty moisturizer sounds so nice and I’ve been meaning to try out a night cream, but I feel you on sometimes feeling like less is more when it comes to the skin! I have a really small sample of that BB cream I’ve been meaning to try, so I’m excited knowing you’ve purchased it so many times!
