It’s time, people.
The Bachelorette has returned.Â
and I’m kind of excited because this show is a train wreck and I love it.
but I have a huge issue with this season of The Bachelorette.
In case you didn’t know, here’s what normally happens: one woman gets 25 dudes that all want to date/marry them.
Here’s what’s happening this season: two women from last season of the Bachelor are starting on The Bachelorette. and then all these guys come… and vote which one of the women stays.
Now that you’re caught up, let me stand up on my soapbox.
This is bull.
These women are more valuable than that. This whole Bachelor franchise already sucks because it sets women up to compare and face potential rejection. and I get it. They signed up for that, and obviously these two signed up for it.. but that doesn’t mean that’s it okay.
Normally at the cocktail party, the Bachelorette would sit around and be evaluating the men and figuring out who they want to stay, but in this case… the men are sitting around CONTINUING TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THE TWO WOMEN. The power is still in the hands of the men. What’s the point of having The Bachelorette if the men get to choose what woman they want? Isn’t that completely contrary to what the whole point of letting the women have the control is?
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not normally all GIRL POWER or anything, but seriously. Not okay.
When I watched The Bachelor last season (which was my first time) I was so heartbroken by the way the women acted. I wanted to jump into my TV ALL OF THE TIME and hug them and say “sweet girl, the validation of a man you barely know isn’t valuable. You are better than this.”
and now two of those women – two women that made it fairly far in the show – are back in a place where they are looking for the validation of men they barely know. and it BREAKS MY HEART.
We weren’t created for this. We weren’t created for any part of this franchise. We weren’t created to need to prove ourselves to find love. Not once, and CERTAINLY not twice. and DEFINITELY not for entertainment.
Let me be real: I’m going to be watching this train wreck. But I am absolutely heartbroken that these women are having to endure this AGAIN.
and I just want for women everywhere to remember that they are better than having to prove to someone that they are better than the person next to you. I don’t care how sparkly her dress is, how pretty her hair, how long her legs.. you deserve someone who hypothetically steps out of a limo and sees you and regardless of how sparkly the other dress, how pretty the other hair, how long the other legs… has eyes for you and for you only.
You are the bachelorette. The men of the world are your suitors. It is not your job to out-shine the girl next to you in the sparkly dress.
Don’t forget that.
and please forgive my ultra GIRL POWER post.
Yeah, it’s like a train wreck I can’t stop watching! I’ve seen basically all the seasons of the show. I was originally for Britt because I feel she is much classier than Kaitlyn (I’m not a fan of crude jokes/dirty mouths). But after last night I kinda hope Kaitlyn gets it because Britt was so confident and almost rude to Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn was saying that she was nervous, and Britt said she was mostly just excited, when she should have sympathized with Kaitlyn and said she was nervous too. It was just really rude/not compassionate in my opinion. Of course, like you said, this entire situation is terrible.
i was like.. somewhere in this post i have to mention that i’ll be watching every episode so i don’t come across as a hypocrite.
i think britt, in general, has suffered a severe misrepresentation of character. last season she was kind of the super cool, in the bag contestant for the bachelor… and then suddenly it’s like they flipped a switch and EVERYONE was on the anti-britt train. they said terribly mean things about her. and i’m NOT okay with that.
maybe she did say numerous times that she was nervous, but they cut it out. i don’t know. it just sucks because the editors get to paint these girls to come across in certain ways, you know? but at the heart of it, it was still two women fighting for the validation of men they don’t know (and who don’t know them), and i’m not down with that AT ALL.
i think that kaitlyn would probably have more fun as the bachelorette. i guess we’ll see tonight…!!!
YES. It’s bad enough that all the women have to compete on the Bachelor and get all catty and jealous, but seriously, making these two compete with each other (when it should only be men competing on the Bachelorette) sucks. Women can be totally cruel to women…I feel like this just promotes that (even just the Bachelor). And it’s all for a man, which makes it even worse. Oy.
yes. yes yes.
it’s like when all of the victors from the first hunger games get called back in to a victor’s round for the quarter quell. i wish i’d have thought of that example earlier, haha. but it is!! like they played the game, they have suffered the consequences… and now they’re right back at it. give them a break, bachelor franchise.
Except I still might watch it…
yeah me too soooo :/
I was listening to Ryan Seacrest’s radio show yesterday and he was interviewing the two bachelorette girls. He straight up asked them which one of them was the play thing and which one was the marrying kind. Messed up.
WHAT. not okay. i mean i GET that they are two completely different women, but enough with the labeling and comparing and everything. ugh. poor girls.
YES YES YES. I had just just turn it off it was too much.
you have more will than me… i kept watching. BUT! i will say that one of my friends did tell me a spoiler so i know how it ends and i’m okay with it. if she hadn’t told me, i’d probably have stopped watching it too!
Stephanie, I am definitely watching this season’s of The Bachelorette because, like you said, how can you not! It’s just so addicting, and nice to watch something that you can laugh at and not take to seriously. I totally agree on their thought for this particular season though. They have everyone putting these two girls against each other, and leaving it up to the men…no cool! That being said, they BETTER have Kaitlyn as the Bachelorette..or I might be crushed.
really!? i’m all about team britt – maybe because i just feel like she was so mistreated last season for no reason and that KILLS me. i don’t think i would have been disappointed if they’d announced kaitlyn as the bachelorette… ugh, this whole decision thing is just so messed up!! are they gonna do that for the bachelor, too? or is it just for the bachelorette? bleh!!
Oh no, I totally got a different impression of her last season. I feel like she wanted him to only be all about her EVERY single time – which is normal until you sign up to be on a show like that. Also, I felt like she was pretty deceptive..but what do I know. 😉
I really don’t think they’ll do this with the bachelor though because it’ll be too overdone. They made such a big deal about it this time..so let’s hope they don’t do that again!!
Hmmm I kind of want to be thinking the same but I just can’t pull myself away from the show it’s such a train wreck . I get that they need to keep it fresh and different and well if the girls are daft enough to sign up again after possible misrepresentations last time then my sympathy kind of goes out of the window a little
i get that. i just think that we should value people more than to even put them in that situation – and those women should value themselves more. it’s just hard to watch.
We watched it on Monday and last night barely even made it halfway through. It usually is entertaining and such a train wreck. It may sound cheesy but we are trying to evaluate what we are actually watching and how we are spending our time better. It’s so true, the way women act towards each other on these shows is just out of control. You can’t help but shake your head and feel sorry for their poor parents if they are watching.
