Empties v. 3

Time for my third installment of Empties, where I show you the things in my bathroom that I’ve used up and if I’ll replace them. LET THE RECORD STATE that this picture was taken in January, but I still hadn’t posted one from awhile before so I first had to do my second one. Also, one of my 101 in 1001 things to do is to use up 50 smelly things. That means lotions/perfumes/body sprays, so I’m going to use these Empties posts to keep count! I decided that 4 small sample size bottles = 1 full size bottle. That seems fair, right?

IMG_9497 IMG_9498

Alba Hawaiian Facial Scrub
I love tropical things. Like… coconut and pineapple and mango are my things. I was really excited to try this facial scrub. It was a little bit on the watery side for me. When I think of “scrub” I think of something thicker than what this one was.
Replace? No.

B&BW Country Chic lotion x2
One of these lotions was a gift from my friend Sarah when she got married. I bought a second bottle because I loved the smell but didn’t want to use up the gift bottle. Then I realized that was stupid so I used them both up.
Replace? Not for awhile, because I still have SO MANY lotions to go through (.5/50 smelly things used up)

Olay Luscious Orchid Body Wash
Please refer to my last empties post. This came in a gift set with the lotion I wrote about there.
Replace? No. (1.5/50 smelly things)

Yes to Carrots Color Balm
Okay here’s the story about this. Many years ago, it was Black Friday. My mom and I were in the massive checkout line at Target. I didn’t have my chapstick and my lips were killing me. Walking through the beauty aisle, I grabbed what I thought would be a $2-$3 lip balm. Imagine my surprise when it came up as being like $6!! But by then I just needed it so badly. I have lost and found this lip balm so many times and I was SO PROUD of myself for having used it all up.
Replace? No, because I have SO MANY lip balms.

Mary Kay Lash Primer
I got this primer in an Influenster VoxBox a year or so ago, and I LOVED it. It was finally time to throw it out and that made my heart break. I’ve been trying to find a decent lash primer, but I might have to cave and purchase this one. Anybody know a Mary Kay consultant I can buy it from??
Replace? Eventually.

Julep Eyeshadow
I checked. This isn’t available on Julep anymore, though it MIGHT be the Orbital Eyeshadow, but in different packaging. It was my first shimmery nude/gold eyeshadow and now that’s what I’m in love with.
Replace? No, but I’m invested in very similar products. 🙂

Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm
Yeah, get used to seeing this. I’ve recently started trying different BB and CC Creams, but this is the one I will ALWAYS go back to. It all started with a little sample in my Birchbox 🙂
Replace? ALWAYS!

Dr. Hauschka Body Wash
At some point it’s like.. another body wash. The end. I DO love the smell of lemongrass, though. But still…. another body wash.
Replace? No. (1.75/50 smelly things used up)

Viva La Juicy Body Wash
I would buy this, full size, again in a heartbeat. Because yeah, another body wash… but the smell of Viva La Juicy is SO fun, energizing and girly and perfect. It’s my favorite.
Replace? Eventually (2/50 smelly things used up)

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner
A Birchbox sample. The full-size product is in my “favorites” because I’d LOVE to try it out consistently, but the $45 is hard to justify.
Replace? Eventually.

Bath & Body Works Pink Chiffon body lotion
Another lotion. The problem with having the Bath & Body Works outlet RIGHT ON THE WAY to camp is that I end up with a variety of scents and they all smell okay, but I never take the time to be very intentional about only purchasing one or two special scents. Hopefully with my purging of smelly things, I can start again with a blank slate.
Replace? No. (3/50 smelly things used up)

IMG_9501Someday by Justin Bieber Body Wash
Another body wash. But by THE BIEBS! Okay I honestly really love the smell of this, though I really did buy it for the cute packaging and the novelty of smelling like Justin Bieber. 🙂
Replace? No. (3.25/50 smelly things)

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo
I LOVE AMIKA’S PACKAGING! I love the bright, swirly colors. Right now I’m out of dry shampoo, and I’d completely forgotten about this one until I started writing this blog. I’ll have to think about getting this one – sometimes I think for something like dry shampoo, a cheaper drugstore version would work just as well. Save the big dollar items for things I actually put on my face.
Replace? Maybe.

Jergens BB Body Lotion
OH MY GOSH I SWEAR BY THIS STUFF! The smell of this is my new smell of the summer. We’ve had warm days recently so I’ve put this lotion on my legs and I keep thinking IT SMELLS LIKE SUMMER! Even though the full size bottle is kind of expensive ($12!!!), it’s totally worth it. It makes my legs feel hydrated and smooth and I love it.
Replace? Already did; will buy another bottle for this summer, since I doubt mine will make it through spring.

EOS Shave Cream in Pomegranate Raspberry
I first started using this shave cream because HELLO THE PACKAGING. It’s so cute. But then I realized I really loved the product. I love that it doesn’t get really foamy, it feels more like a lotion than anything.
Replace? I did, but now I’m trying to justify spending $20 on this Whish Shave Cream because COCONUT!

I think I got everything in the picture!! I’ve been trying to be more intentional about using up products, so I think for awhile there will be a LOT of them. My hope is to be able to do one Empties post every month – starting the end of April, or maybe sooner because my current pile of empty stuff is TAKING OVER. Just wondering – would anybody be interested in linking up with this?

Cinderella LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s

Let me take a moment and confess one of my dreams.

But I’m just not there yet. I feel awkward taking pictures of myself and whenever I put my camera on self-timer, the pictures get all blurry. So that means I get to just selfie the whole thing for now.

I decided that I should just start somewhere, though and that somewhere is LAUREN CONRAD’S CINDERELLA LINE for Kohl’s.

Namely, this ADORABLE t-shirt.

I’m SO excited for the new Cinderella movie. Like… stupid excited. I don’t even know why, because Cinderella isn’t even my favorite Disney princess. I think it all started when I watched the Cinderella date on The Bachelor and I remembered how much I love fancy dresses and princesses and stuff.

This Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo shirt, though… it’s so cute. It’s so plainly Cinderella without being over the top. There’s a cute ribbon on the hem of it and it’s shiny rose gold and it’s just all the magical things in the world. Oh yeah and it’s Lauren Conrad, stealer of my money.

My boyfriend {he said I can say that on my blog!} asked me if I curled my hair and I said no, that’s just how it looks when I don’t brush it. I guess if I really want to be a fashion blogger, I should start brushing my hair.

So clearly my favorite color is pink. My second favorite color is gold. My third favorite color is sparkle. But come on, Cinderella is KNOWN for the sky blue dress, and so I decided to be all weird sentimental nerd and throw on a slightly out of place but definitely relevant sky blue Lauren Conrad necklace. I’m not even kidding you, I wear so much Lauren Conrad I deserve to be her for a day.

IMG_0225 IMG_0230

Shoes – Target
Pants / Shirt / Necklace – LC Lauren Conrad
Cardigan – Candie’s {it was on clearance for $7.60! WHAT!}

OK help me out here.
How do I get my camera to take non-blurry timer pictures?
or do any of you want to come take awkward pictures of me?
and I wasn’t sponsored to gush about Lauren Conrad’s clothes, I willingly spend my whole life doing that anyway.

Empties v. 2

Oh my gosh.  This post is really overdue. So overdue that there’s another post of the very same nature waiting to be posted and I realized I never posted this… from AUGUST! Today as I was cramming empty bottles into the box I keep them in to blog about later, I decided that at the end of each month I’ll do one of these blog posts. Carly’s blog is where I first saw this – basically you just post about the products you’ve used up and your thoughts on them.

I haven’t shared an empties post since MAY of 2014! Oh my gosh. Let’s get down to business.

Bath & Body Works Sweet Pea shower gel.

I tend to have a lot of Bath & Body works stuff because there’s an outlet on the way to camp and I stock up. But I’ve been trying to break that habit. Sweet pea is a fun, girly scent.
Replace? I bought a second one so I kinda did, but I won’t again.

Caress Passionate Spell Body Wash

I forgot all about this and I’m almost out of body wash and this smells SOOOO GOOOOOD.
Replace? YES!

Bain de Terre keratin phyto-protein STRENGTHENING SULFATE-FREE SHAMPOO

I got this in my Birchbox one month. I don’t like testing out shampoos and conditioners because #1 I don’t use them and #2 even if I did there’s never enough to know how I feel about it.
Replace? No.

Peter Lamas Soy & Baobab Shampoo

I received this to review, and I really liked it. But in the time that I was using this shampoo and conditioner, I transitioned into being primarily no shampoo.
Replace? No.

Satin Care Shave Gel

Ugh I hate these kinds of shaving cream. I actually use an epilator so I don’t need to shave as often so I have since stopped being cheap and have purchased a shaving cream I like more. and once I run out of the EOS kind I’m using now, I’m investing in the Whish kind.
Replace? No.

Witch Hazel

Um so every day I use a toner made up of witch hazel and lemon juice, so I go through this stuff like crazy. I was in desperate need of some and Target only had their store brand so I had to make do.
Replace? I have, though I prefer other brands.

St. Ives Naturally Smooth moisturizer thing

Ugh I need to stop buying travel sized things.  I didn’t like this. I don’t remember why. I just know I didn’t.
Replace? NO.

Bath & Body Works Pink Chiffon lotion

Yes please. I love this smell.  My problem is I just love things that smell pretty so then I buy a bunch of small sizes of them and then I have a gazillion of them and I get overwhelmed with choices. But I do love this one.
Replace? No, just because I need to STOP.

Olay Luscious Orchid Body Lotion

You know what else I used to be REALLY BAD at?? Buying things the day after Christmas. I’d think “well I’ll eventually need lotion, so I might as well buy these four gift sets at 1/2 off that each have a lotion” and then I’m stuck with lotion that I don’t like FOREVER. This year I resisted and bought nothing! I’m getting better.
Replace? No.

Derma E Very Clear Acne Scrub

This was featured in my last Empties post. I originally got this cleanser as a freebie in the Birchbox shop, and I LOVED it. I decided to take it a step further and invest in the kind that is made specifically for acne prone skin… and I regretted it. I had purchased the regular kind again before this bottle had even run out so that I could slowly phase it out. I love the original.
Replace? Not the Acne one.

Peter Lamas Moisturizer

As you can see, the moisturizer wasn’t even empty. But as I’d written in my review, it was too liquidy. and I grew to hate the smell. So I decided that I needed to get rid of it because it was taking up valuable space in my already too cluttered bathroom.
Replace? No.

Juice Beauty Oil-Free Moisturizer

From my Birchbox. This was part of why I gave up on the Peter Lamas one.. I FELL IN LOVE with this moisturizer and suddenly I realized what a moisturizer is supposed to do. This little tube lasted me awhile, and it’s been sitting in my Birchbox “favorites” ever since. One day I’ll take the plunge and buy it.

Simple Revitalizing Eye Roller

This was Birchbox as well. The whole idea is you rub it under your eyes and it’s cooling and wakes you up or helps you fall asleep and reduces the dark circles and lines and stuff. It felt really good to roll under my eyes, but I don’t think it did much aside from feel good.
Replace? No.

Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer sample

Weird to think that three years ago I SWORE BY Proactiv. My face, while not completely clear, is clearer than it was when I used Proactiv and I use way less products on it. It’s the witch hazel and lemon juice I’m telling you. I always liked the smell of this moisturizer but got the idea that if I purchased the full sized one of it, I’d hate it.  Plus then I broke up with proactiv.
Replace? No.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Night Cream

I think I got this from Influenster to sample. and I really liked it. I like the idea of applying something to my face before I go to bed. It makes me feel like a grown up because I feel like that’s what women in movies and TV shows do. But I don’t think it really did much for me. I’d rather just apply coconut oil. because then it smells perfect.
Replace? No.

CitreShine Repair Spray

You know what started my product hoarding problem? When I was younger, I discovered Big Lots. and suddenly I was like “look at all of these things I can buy for a slightly lower price.” and I bought all the things. and I’ve been trying to use all the things. This was one of them. It didn’t do much for me.
Replace? No.

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle

ALL THE YES! This is in my Birchbox Favorites. I absolutely LOVE the smell. Since I don’t use conditioner in favor of apple cider vinegar sometimes my hair smells like BUTT when I get out of the shower. ACV smells nasty. But I spray on some of this stuff, wrap my hair, and then it smells wonderful AND I know that my hair is protected if I should use a curling iron or straightener.
Replace? Already did!

100% Pure Fruit Infused Mascara

Also in my Birchbox faves! I LOVED that it smells like fruit – I’d always sniff it before applying it. I’ve recently acquired a lot of mascara, so I don’t need to buy this again but I really love it and it’s at the top of my list when I need to replace some old mascara.
Replace? Eventually

Liz Earle Cleanser

No. It came with Muslin cloths so I was expecting an experience like when I used the Eve Lom cleanser awhile ago. Let me tell you… the Eve Lom cleanser is something I think about ALL THE TIME. When I finally spend the freaking $80 on that cleanser, I am going to tell EVERYONE ABOUT IT. I was hoping this would be awesome since it used muslin cloths too, but… nope.
Replace? No.

Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm

The only beauty product I use EVERY SINGLE DAY. Literally every day. It’s my favorite. I never imagined I’d be the kind of person who was willing to spend $34 on a beauty product, but I don’t even think twice every time I order this. I always have one that I’m currently using and then one ready for when the one I’m using runs out. Because I refuse to go without this.
Replace? Already have multiple times.

It’s so weird.. I don’t think of myself as a person who uses or tries a lot of products, but I guess I do! I’ve grown a lot – I no longer stock up just on whatever is on sale but have started to invest in things I really love and replace those. It will take a little bit before I’m completely through with the stuff I don’t love as much. But once that’s gone, it’ll be exciting to really share the things I love and have been trying out because I won’t have so many options.

BoxyCharm Box Review

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

If you follow me on instagram, you might have caught on that I love subscription box services. Especially beauty ones. Because let’s be real…. I have no idea how a person is supposed to know what products to buy and try, and with the price of many beauty products… there’s a huge commitment involved in that!

BoxyCharm review //

When I was given the opportunity to receive a BoxyCharm Box for review, I was so excited!

BoxyCharm is a monthly beauty subscription. For $21/month, you get 4-5 full size products sent to you each month. Seeing as how most of the beauty products I use cost $20-$36ish dollars each, this is a great deal – it definitely pays for itself! I love the idea of full size products as opposed to samples. How do you really know if you love something if you can only use it once or twice?

I LOVED the packaging. It was so cute, girly and inviting. I was SO excited to tear into it and see what  was waiting for me!

BoxyCharm Box Review //

Inside the BoxyCharm box was an eyeshadow palette, fake lashes, a retractable beauty brush, a lip crayon, and a bottle of hairspray.

The box was full of products that were relevant and have become a part of my daily routine (okay, except for the false lashes because that’s not really my thing). The eyeshadow palette is full of nude colors, which is what I tend to wear on my eyes. Since I travel often, I love having a retractable brush handy so that I don’t have to worry about throwing it in with my toiletries and having it get all nasty. And even though I have been curling my hair a lot lately, I don’t actually own hair spray!

BoxyCharm Box Review //

Have you ever heard of BoxyCharm before?
Do you currently subscribe to any box subscriptions? and if so, which ones!?

I was offered the opportunity to review BoxyCharm thanks to BrandBacker.

What I’ve been wearing… lots of Lauren Conrad (always)

As part of the 12×30 challenge for this month, which has the theme of LOVE YOURSELF, Mary-Keith and I are taking pictures of what we wear every day and posting them on Instagram. Here’s what I’ve been wearing.

How to become a Birchbox Ace

how to make the most of your birchbox subscription //
After months and months of hard work, I have finally crossed over into the land flowing with perks and samples. I have become a Birchbox Ace. !!!!!! You know what that means? That means that me and Birchbox are BFF and I want to help all of you learn how to become a Birchbox Ace.

How to become a Birchbox Ace

You know why people set up incentive programs? It’s because they want your business. They want you to be all in with them. I’m all in with a few things. I’m all in with Southwest airlines, my Target debit card & cartwheel app, Swagbucks, Starbucks Gold card… and Birchbox. Forget that other things exist. There is no Ulta. No Sephora. Just Birchbox. Unless Birchbox doesn’t have what you want, then you can go to Ulta (and use the rewards card, dangit!). If you want to really know how to become a Birchbox Ace, you have to want it. That means Birchbox is your #1.

Usually you get 4-5 samples in your Birchbox. You have a few weeks to sample your products and then leave reviews on, and for every review you post they will give you 10 Birchbox points. Every 100 points = $10 to use in the Birchbox store. That means that every 2-3 months, with faithful reviewing, you earn $10 to spend in the Birchbox store. And there’s TONS of stuff for under $10, OR you can stockpile them!

Update – Unfortunately Birchbox no longer gives points for reviews!

#3. Shop!

Every $1 spent = 1 Birchbox point. If you LOVE an item (like I love these) then buy them from Birchbox. It all goes back to #1. Once you become an Ace, you get even more back in points. Once I figured this out, I realized it was so much more important for me to figure out how to become a Birchbox Ace.

#4. Take advantage of codes and discounts.

Every so often, Birchbox will send out an e-mail with a discount code. Because I exclusively shop at Birchbox, these codes are like Christmas presents, because I can often replace my favorites at a fraction of the cost. They’ll occasionally run promotions where you can get extra points if you spend a certain amount – I try and hold off for either a discount or a promo in order to make the most of my purchase.

Before you buy any items in your cart, head over to the Bonus Shop and look around – your purchase may be eligible for additional samples. For example, if you spend $30, you can get two mystery samples included in your order. It’s an easy way to keep the samples headed your way. And how about that one time I scored this full-size face scrub for free in the Bonus Shop? I’ve replaced it twice when I need to give myself a break from the honey/nutmeg/cinnamon scrub I usually use.

how to make the most of your birch box subscription //

#6. Refer your friends.

For every friend you refer, you earn 50 points. Not only that, but they often run promotions and contests where you can earn a free Birchbox if you refer friends! You know a great way to refer friends? Talk about Birchbox! Post about it on your social media accounts and let people know that you are a Birchbox subscriber and love it. People have probably heard about it at this point and if they’re on the fence, they’ll want to talk to someone about their experience.. be that person!

Follow these tips and soon you’ll be a Birchbox Ace with me! 🙂

Do you subscribe to Birchbox? Have you found any products you love? I want to know! 🙂
