Can I just be honest, though? I literally don’t feel like I’m getting married. Like… I have this ring on my finger and all of these things in my mom’s garage to put up at a wedding. People are coming in from out of town, I have a pretty dress and a hair trial tomorrow. Like the pieces are there, but it still hasn’t clicked. Is this weird? Is it normal? Okay but really, it’s so weird that I’m getting married. Actually married, like legally and for real and stuff. Haha. Moving on.

Let me just say this. After kind of sucking at August’s goals, I did pretty super fantastic at September’s.

  1. Have 500 available listings on Poshmark
    Nailed. It. One day I literally listed 46 things. The next day I made $95 in sales and STILL had over 500 listings. That felt so so so good.
  2. Read 2 books
     I read one and about two separate half books. I read the book Loner because it was listed as a staff recommendation at a bookstore Justen an I went to in Bend, OR… I couldn’t put the book down but I also kind of hated it. I checked out like 5 books from the library and finished 0 of them. Definitely bit off more than I could chew with that.
  3. Make a list of 25 things I like about myself
    I blogged about it here!
  4. Buy fresh flowers
  5. Read a book of the Bible
  6. Try a new recipe
    Thank you, Whole 30. I tried a BUNCH of new recipes this month, but the favorite was probably this paleo chicken recipe.
  7. Get a manicure
    On September 30th. and then I put together IKEA furniture and messed it all up, lol.

  8. Organize the pots/pans
    This felt so good, y’all. We got a little pan organizer thing from Home Goods and spent all of like 10 minutes rearranging and now I don’t want to slam my head against the wall every time I go to grab something.
  9. Make a list of what needs to get done for our wedding and finish something.
    I kind of did this.
  10. Write 5 blog posts
    Did it! Yes! It didn’t feel like I actually wrote 5 posts in September, but I guess I did. That shrug emoji belongs here.

25 Things I Like About Myself

Praise hands for my September goals, y’all. I’ve got some time to kill, and logged into my blog dashboard for the first time in… a very long time. 😀 and then I just stared at the “Add New,” because there’s a lot going on… but I didn’t even know where to start. I opened up my September Goals and realized that I could get some stuff moving with those goals by working on this blog post.

Every so often I get these moments of really being mad at our society. I’ll flip through magazines and go “ad, ad, ad, article, ad, ad, article, ad, ad, ad, ad, ad, half page article about how to be better…” and it hits me that as women we are CONSTANTLY being told we aren’t enough. Weight loss, makeup, clothing, underwear, vacuums, snacks for kids… it turns out there’s always a better option we’ve been foolish to not pursue.

There are pounds to lose, and even if your pounds have been lost, there’s muscle to gain. Always something that makes our lives better than we’ve been settling for.

I often feel like I’m not enough – not enough for my dreams, not enough for the life I desire. I’m not ___ enough or ____ enough – it never ends.

I’m going to jump off the crazy train for a moment and do something that’s not an easy exercise for me. I’m going to make a list of things I like about myself – and make it public. It feels like it would be easier to just jot it down in my journal, but dang it I am going to be vulnerable.

Also, how absurd is it that making a list of things I like about myself feels more vulnerable than a list of things I DON’T like about myself? Messed the heck up.


01. I am open with others and share the story of my life without reservation.
02. If someone asks my feedback, I give an honest response.
03. I have a  deep desire to see my friends win and succeed at everything they do.
04. I am often braver than I think, though it only comes out when it’s desperately needed.
05. Picking up the tab for coffee or lunch or a moment with my friends is a huge joy of mine.
06. I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is when I believe in some one/thing.
07. Admitting when I’m wrong has become a natural part of my relationships with people.
08. I’m not mesmerized by bigger/newer/better.
09. I possess the weird ability and love for treating lice on children.
10. I’m pretty good at finding ways to save and/or earn money and only keep the ones that are easy and breezy.
11. I can binge watch shows on Netflix like nobody else.
12. I’m a confident driver in many different forms of vehicles.
13. I try to say yes unless I have a real, solid reason to say no.
14. I’m pretty good at doing other people’s dishes and laundry.
15. Doing things by myself doesn’t scare me. Unless it’s new stuff, but that’s a different thing.
16. I have a deep well of Madeleine L’Engle words stored in my heart.
17. I can wait for things I want without growing impatient.
18. More often than not I take responsibility for my own actions/decisions and try to make new decisions and take new actions that will yield better results.
19. I know all the words to Legally Blonde the Musical. I really like that about myself.
20. I’ve been doing a really great job of not biting my nails for the past few months.
21. I can spend all day walking around malls and stores and walk out with no purchases. Window shopping fills me up.
22. Wearing the same outfit for 5 days in a row is a gift of mine. If I find something I love wearing, I just want to keep wearing it. So sue me.
23. I like that I have big financial goals for myself and Justen.
24. Food boredom rarely happens to me; I could eat the same 3 meals for a month straight and not be bothered at all.
25. All things considered, I have good intentions for almost everything I do, whether they’re seen that way or not.

Y’all, this was actually so very difficult. I thought, “no problem, 25 things I like about myself will be a cake walk.” It literally took me over a month – this was originally meant to be posted in AUGUST, but it took me that long to come up with 25 things.

So now I’m going to challenge you guys. I dare you to make a list (publicly or privately) of 25 things you like about yourself and then report back and tell me how the experience was. I expected to have some big grand new affection for myself, but mostly I spent time going “REALLY? I can’t think of ANYTHING?” Let me know what the experience is like for you! ;D

Time to look back on last month’s goals and set goals for the month ahead. Y’all ready?! 😀

July Goals

    It just wasn’t a priority, and that’s just being honest.

    Visiting Washington and then packing for going home is what held this back, I think. At some point I stopped listing new inventory and packed a bunch of stuff, meaning all of my inventory wasn’t accessible for shipping and had to be marked as not for sale. It was a small hiccup, so I’m not beating myself up over this.
  8. Get a manicure
    I decided I actually didn’t want to spend the money. Insert the shrug emoji right here.
  9. Buy 3 things for the wedding {3 of 3}
  10. Make macarons

Okay so it was MEANT TO BE – I saw my sweet friend Amber post a picture of some macarons she’d just baked and a light bulb went off in my head because making macarons was on my 101 list! I added it to my July Goals and asked if she’d be down to help – which she was! She surprised me with the flavor (coconut mocha WHAT!) and helped me make them. They were so tasty and now I feel like I could make a fair attempt at making macarons on my own. Who knew they were so specific in how they’re made?!

Here’s what’s up with these goals, y’all. In case you missed it, Justen and I got an apartment (YAY!) that I’ll be moving into as soon as I get myself back home. I’m currently 100% unsure about my whole income situation, so I’m looking at this transition as if I’m going to have to work. my. butt. off. Poshmark has been going well for me, and I have a bunch of inventory to list (it’s only $0.80/lb in Nashville, y’all!!!) so I’m going to dream big and work hard. It’s scary but exciting.

My goals are partially related to all of that. They’re all about putting up guardrails to protect myself from apathy and move myself more towards the mental/physical/emotional space I’m wanting to be at.

Tips for starting a 101 in 1001 days list.

I have seriously been so excited to start my new 101 in 1001 list. I’ve been doing them for SIX years, and while I’ve never finished all 101 things (I actually finished less during round 2 than I did during round 1), I have fallen in love with having a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. This 101 things to do in 1001 days thing is actually called the Day Zero Project, and here’s the nitty gritty as written on their site, Day Zero

The Challenge:Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).

Why 1001 Days?Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple challenges such as New Year’s resolutions or a ‘Bucket List’. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips, study semesters, or outdoor activities.

It’s a great way to have some sort of filter through which to live your life, plan your days and spare time, and learn what is really important to you. And it’s 100% yours.

Ever since I posted my newest 101 in 1001 list, I’ve had a LOT of people reach out to me and tell me they want to start a 101 in 1001 list, and I wanted to help walk you through that!

You’ll first need a list. Here’s what I’ve learned about making a list:

101 is a crap ton of things to do. Coming up with the list of 101 things to do might actually be harder than doing the things, so be forewarned. Write down any and all ideas that come to you, and let yourself get caught up in a brain storm for these ideas.

Brainstorm in categories. What were my financial, health, relational, and personal goals? I spent a lot of time looking at other people’s 101 in 1001 lists for ideas that aligned with those goals I had. Keep in mind that this isn’t a bucket list. This isn’t a list of everything you’ve ever wanted to do in your life, and it’s not a list of things you’ve never done. It’s simply a list of things you’d like to do within 3 years. They don’t even have to be monumental or have any real reason, they just have to be something you decide on doing.

Do a little research on the cost of things. On my last list I wrote that I wanted to stay at Treehouse Point and ride in a hot air balloon. Both were very expensive things I ended up not being able to afford, and I would have definitely written something else in their place had I known.

It’s okay to keep some goals secret. I have secret social media goals I want to accomplish and I don’t publish those publicly. I track and monitor my progress in my bullet journal, but I don’t post updates about it. You could do this for money, weight or other personal goals.

This isn’t a bucket list. We’re not brainstorming all the things you’d like to do before you die, this is just a list of 101 things you’d like to accomplish in the next 2.75 years. It’s more than a to do less and less than a bucket list. Is there a closet you’ve been avoiding purging? Crafts you’ve been meaning to make? Places you’ve wanted to go, shows you’ve wanted to watch, things you’ve wanted to do… but never made it a priority? Put them on this list.

It doesn’t have to be glamorous. Renewing my passport, bowl over 100, finish listening to every song in my iTunes… none of those are glamorous, but they’re things I probably wouldn’t prioritize doing if it wasn’t for a public list I got to cross them off of.

Your 101 in 1001 is personal. You can look at a zillion other 101 in 1001 lists and still come up short of 101 things because stuff other people want to do just doesn’t interest you. Maybe you don’t want to run a marathon, see sights overseas, pay off your house, try eating a squid, give up coffee, etc. That’s fine. Make your list about you and your life.

Take things you like to do and be intentional about doing it more often. I’ve always had a goal to try different coffee shops, and I always finish this. I love finding new coffee shops, but if left to my own devices I’ll just earn free gift cards to Starbucks and go there. Having a list of different coffee shops I’ve gone to encourages me to do something I love to do anyway. My last list said to try 35 shops and this time I’m trying 50, because once I hit my goal I fell back into the Starbucks habit (and true story, I’m sitting at Starbucks right now).

After you have your list, I recommend making it public. Not only is it good accountability, it also gives you the opportunity to keep track and share your success! Plus you might encourage someone else to start one, too! It’s really fun to be able to look at the things other people are wanting to accomplish and seeing if you could help them at all.

A 101 List is a brilliant way to push yourself a little out of your day-to-day life and choose to live intentionally. Thanks to my last 101 list (which I didn’t even finish!) I was able to do things I wouldn’t have made time to do otherwise – like walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, celebrating random holidays, and touching an elephant!

Sea to Shining Sea

A few weeks ago Ernie asked me if I’d want to drive to Florida with him. He had a gig and the 9 hour drive and quick turn around would be a lot to do on his own. It took me like half a nanosecond to say yes, so on Saturday we woke up literally before the butt crack of dawn and hit the road.

As we were driving, I commented on the sun rising and I suddenly realized that I would be seeing the sun rise and set on my first day, which was on my 101 in 1001! How. brilliant. I ended up crossing off quite a few things from my 101.. keep reading 🙂

We drove through Georgia, stopping to get some peach cobbler.

We listened, of course, to Bruno Mars most of the way. Naturally, right?! and then we finally hit Florida and made our way to The Club Continental, where Ernie’s gig was. It was so beautiful and despite the bugs and humidity, I probably could have spent a long time looking at how beautiful the place was. I walked around a little bit and took some pictures before getting tired of the bugs and the way the air fogged up my camera.

Ernie’s show was right on the water, and as I watched the sun set, I realized I’d driven all the way from Washington to Florida over the past 3 weeks. Literally sea to shining sea, just like America the Beautiful. I saw it all.

Beautiful, spacious skies? Check!
Amber waves of grain? Check!
Purple mountain’s majesty? Check!
Fruited plains? Check!
Sea to shining sea? Check!

Oh snap!

The evening was pretty fun except for that moment when Ernie started singing “Pony” and I straight up walked out, haha.


I did a little reading and retired to bed early because I’d been so. exhausted. This wasn’t the worst view to wake up to:

“Stand in the Atlantic Ocean” has been on my 101 in 1001 days lists since 2011. There’s no way I was going to be in Florida and not make a case for me standing in the ocean. We didn’t have much time, but I told Ernie that I literally just needed to stand in the Atlantic Ocean, snap a picture and then we could go. So he dropped me off, I walked across a beach like I’ve only seen in a movie (the whitest sand I’ve ever seen and colorful umbrellas and sea shells all over), took my sandals off, let the ocean wash over my feet, took some pictures as proof and ran back to the car.

On our way back we saw signs for the original Chick-fil-A which you know I was all over, and only like 30 seconds later did I have the sobering realization that it was a Sunday and therefore I would not be able to indulge in a chicken sandwich from the first ever Chick-fil-A. But you’d better know that didn’t stop me from still seeing it. What the heck, first Chipotle and now Chick-fil-A? ALL. THE. EYE. ROLL.

My new 101 in 1001 list!


This is my THIRD 101 list! That means I’ve spent almost 5.5 years of my adult life living with these lists. My first one, I accomplished 46 of the 101 things. My second one, I accomplished 44. This year, let’s shoot for at least 51 can I get an amen?!
