2018 Goals

Happy 2018, y’all! We’ve made it!!!!

Today is the first day of the new year and I am so incredibly excited. Last year I kicked the year off by sharing how I used a bullet journal to keep track of my goals – but guess what. I forgot to actually set goals for the whole year. Monthly goals are fun, but having something bigger you’re working towards helps guide those smaller goals.

So here are my 2018 goals. Setting 10 goals a month is a pretty great number, so I decided to keep the yearly number at 10 as well. They are well-rounded and have actionable ways to track their progress.

2018 Goals

  1. Drop our debt by 33%
We need to go from $23,661.40 to $15,853.14.
  2. Lose 50 pounds (goodbye cookies) 🙁
  3. Read 20 books
  4. Finish a StepBet game
  5. Become a dōTerra Executive
This is enough to force me to step out of my comfort zone but not unreasonable for what I want in my life.
  6. Run 101 miles (force myself to do 9 a month)
  7. Track and reduce my screen time
  8. Organize my Poshmark inventory
  9. Set 10 goals a month for a year and complete 90 of 120 of them.
  10. Memorize “I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud.”

Financial, Physical, Emotional, Mental, Personal… I think we’ve got them all! I usually come up with goals that correlate to the kind of person I WISH I was. My first 101 in 1001 list was 100% that. It was like “run 3 times a week for a whole year.” like… what? That’s not me. So I’m always aware of making goals that push me but don’t require me to become some whole different person.

Have you ever heard of using SMART for coming up with goals? Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time Bound. All of those goals I listed fall under those categories, so I’m really excited to get going on them. Just like my 101 in 1001 list, these goals will help me determine what my monthly goals are! Small monthly goals crushed month after month add up to a year with successful, completed goals.

I’m ready. To get to work on these goals specifically and to also keep moving through my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days!

So how about you. Did you make any goals for 2018? Let me know in the comments! 😀

That is so smart to make goals that will help you improve, but are reasonable for you! I never thought about it before, but I did the same thing…. “work out X number of times a week.” That’s not me at all!

yeah girl that’s the #1 way for me to fail is by making goals based on who i wish i was and not who i am and how to take small steps to improve myself. because really to be a person who works out 2x a week i’d probably have to start by working out like… once a month. maybe next year could be 2x a month. the year after that 4x and then up to 2x a week, you know? how do you eat a whole elephant? one bite at a time lol ;D

I love your goals!!! <3 You're going to rock 2018! I'm thinking your 11th goal should be to see me at least once a month. 😉

ha! <3 i concur, though we might have to stack a few months because january and february i'm babysitting overnight a LOT to try and pay off hospital bills :/

2017 was a rough year for goals so i’m adjusting in 2018 and paying more attention to intentions and less on checking off a bunch of things! Screen time is a big one I’m going to tackle and winter seems like the perfect time to do it, I’m guilty of the multiple screens at one watching TV, browsing on my laptop and texting on my phone, definitely something that needs to end!

Looking forward to following along with your goals in 2018!

hey! i love the idea of adjusting your goals. you have to do whatever works for you. it’s like if you have the first thing on your daily to-do list be “cross this off to-do list” because the act of crossing something off just gets you going.

i just heard of this app called moment that tracks your screen time. it’s just your phone, but it’s a good place to start!! happy 2018 goal crushing <3

I did set some goals for the new year – I want to read 50 books, publish 120 blog posts, exercise 3 times/week, and get more sleep!! I love the idea of doing monthly goals too so I might implement a few of those as well! Happy new year!!

    • January 3, 2018 / 9:44 pm

okay girl the 120 blog posts is so inspiring. sometimes i feel like posting one blog a month is like major success haha. and the sleep! do you have a sleep tracker of any sort? definitely break it down into smaller goals! like if you want to do 120 blog posts a year, that’s 10 a month which is easier to feel successes, and that keeps you on track to accomplish the big one!!!! happy new year as well!

why don’t you live closer? i need to lose 50 also & none of my local in real life friends exercise! i like that you made goals that are YOU instead of who you want to be.. that is really smart! speaking of SMART goals, i had to write soooo much about them during grad school -_- haha but they are really helpful!

    • January 3, 2018 / 9:46 pm

UGH FOR REAL!!!! i wish we lived closer!!!!! 🙁 except i don’t exercise either let me just be honest hahaha. i can go hiking and go on walks like nobody’s business but i don’t think of those as exercise (maybe that’s a good thing!!). are you planning to lose 50 this year? let’s celebrate small successes with each other!!! <3

      • January 4, 2018 / 7:48 am

and by exercising I mean walking and hiking cause that’s all I do too haha I gained 50 a few years back and really need to lose it so I’m hoping I can hit it hard once grad school is over and I no longer have to read/write 24/7! 😉 but yes small successes are to be celebrated!

I want less screen time too, which is hard when I love blogging/Instagram……..any suggestions for how to do it?! I love all those goals and it’s making me want to set some of my own!!

    • January 4, 2018 / 2:48 pm

you should!!!! it’s never too late.

i actually just found out about this app called MOMENT – it keeps track of your phone screen time! it’s brilliant. i’ve been using it to track my first month. i was sharing my goals with one of my friends and he told me about it, which was great bc i had NO idea how i was going to track that. and MAKE SOME GOALS.

Haha ok ok fine, I will. Jeez, positive peer pressure over here 😉 And that app is so so smart!!
