Have you guys ever heard the John Mayer song “Wildfire”? It’s one of my favorite songs, and it includes one of the biggest truths of the summer: A little bit of summer’s what the whole year’s all about. Nailed it, John.

I love summer. and sun. and sandals. and iced mochas. Living in the Pacific Northwest, we have super weird weather. The morning chill can burn off in the blink of an eye and suddenly you’re wishing you hadn’t worn a cardigan or that you had  a tank top on under your t-shirt. The struggle.

As someone who wears my hair down, that also means that my hair gets two things: hot and frizzy. Sounds really cute, right? I’ve started to realize that the time I spend doing my hair in the morning could be in vain if the weather turns and my hair is thrown into a messy bun (literally a messy bun, we’re not talking the cute Pinterest messy bun thing) OR if it gets frizzy.

So I have created an on-the-go summer hair essentials kit to help me keep my hair looking super fly (yes I just did) during the hot days of summer.

How cute is this little pink polka dotted bag? Yes. Please. Now. For what’s inside!

Elastic headbands (one fancy, one practical), barrettes, bobby pins, a comb AND a travel brush, hair ties (I found these awesome big, sturdy elastic ones at Walmart!) and of course a smoothing oil to help keep the frizz to a minimum.

Garnier Whole Blends Hair Care has a line of products with ingredients meant to nourish, hydrate and repair your hair. The Whole Blends Smoothing Hair Care line is made with coconut oil and cocoa butter, so it smells delicious. I threw the smoothing oil into my essentials kit for on the go help with frizz, but it also comes with a coconut oil and cocoa butter smoothing shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner, so the battle against frizz starts at home.

That big smile on my face? That’s because I am IN LOVE with the smell of the smoothing oil. The coconut scent (for the entire line) is so full and warm and summer-y. It doesn’t leave your hair feeling greasy or heavy, either.. which is a HUGE plus for hot summer days.

and I find that when the days heat up in the middle, my hair starts down, goes up, and ends down once the sun sets. Putting in the Whole Blends smoothing oil before I put my hair up mid-day helps ensure that when I take it down, it’s not all crazy and wackadoodle.

My FAVORITE easy up do is to take a headband and place it on your head (over your hair) and then pull up and tuck the rest of your hair in, throughout the back of the headband. It’s like doing “no-heat curls,” but not so tight! That way your hair still has a wavy (frizz-free thanks to the Whole Blends Smoothing Oil) look to it when you take it down.

Walmart has the ENTIRE line of Garnier Whole Blends Hair Care – each of the options comes with shampoo and conditioner plus extra ways to keep your hair hydrated, smooth, refreshed, and nourished!
