Day 1 — Your best friend (Emily)
Day 2 — Your vices (Starbucks, etc)
Day 3 — Your parents (Linda & Jerry)
Day 4 — Your siblings
Yesterday, Cassie and I went to lunch. She recently subscribed to my blog via e-mail (cough cough over there on the right) and has been able to keep up on my blogs. She asked me what I am planning on doing for today, day 4; Your Siblings. If you remember or noted from yesterday, I am an only child. Which means I have no siblings. But let me tell you a story.
When I was younger and in the midst of all of the chaos I was growing up in, I began praying for a sister. Just one. I didn’t think I was asking for too much; I just wanted one sister. As I have grown older, I’ve tried reading into this and figuring out what I was hoping out of it, but I can’t. It was just something I wanted. When I was 8, I realized that my mom got her tubes tied right after I was born, which meant no sister for Stephanie. I stopped praying for one.
A few years ago, I had this moment where I realized that God had answered my prayer for a sister. We are so limited by scientific facts and rules and boundaries, things that God is not limited by. Somehow, despite the billions of people on earth, I had collided with my sister. By the time I realized it, I’d known her for four years and hadn’t been trying to build some sort of weird non-biological sister relationship with her. It just naturally developed.
So let me tell you about my siblings. They are not just a family that I love a lot, they are my family.
Emily – also listed under day 1 as my best friend. She just started her senior year of high school, which is so weird because she’s almost a grown up. She’s really stubborn and rarely listens to me. Once she let me pick out an outfit for her to wear to school the next day, and when I woke up she was at school and the outfit was sitting on the chair by her closet. Rude. Emily is also one of the most creative people I’ve met and she has a great eye for photography. You should look at her 365.
Graham – Everybody loves Graham. He is funny and hardworking and helpful and insightful and really great. He also has great taste in music and I love that he knows the words to some of the CDs in my car. Moreso than Emily, I even think. Graham is going to be rich one day. Nobody knows how, but it’s just gonna happen.
Lauren – Lauren has one of the kindest hearts you will ever encounter. She is really thoughtful and selfless. She is now a teenager (what the heck!!) and I try to imagine what she will be like in five years. It’s anyone’s guess, but I don’t think she will ever lose her compassion. She gets it from her parents.
So there you have it. The answers to my prayer.
