TWOsday: Fellow & Marks

30th April 2013 | TWOsday | 0 comments

two things I love.

#1. Fellow Threads
Previously Pelican Merch. They’ve got super cool {almost too cool for me} clothes and a great heart. A portion of their proceeds go to helping organizations around the world. I have 3 shirts, a sweatshirt and another shirt on the way. Every time they roll out a new collection, I will be eagerly awaiting the new reveal and figure out which shirts I will be getting and pretending I’m cool enough to wear.

#2. Marks on My Heart
Sometimes we get caught up in the need to make BIG changes in the world, thinking that our talents need to be glamorous, our resources endless and our time open. But Shelly is proving that wrong. She sells lovely handmade items and gives 25% of the total sales to a different charity each month. For April her charity was The Salvation Army Moore Street Corps & Community Center – my church! Thanks to her talent and her generosity, she is making a difference all around the world. One bookmark at a time.

simple. two things i love.

#1. john mayer

john recently released a snippet
of a new song, shadow days
from his new album, born and raised

{i realized it rhymed so i made that into a poem}

i like quotes. fact. and beyond quotes, i like lyrics. because lyrics are quotes with an easy way to remember them word for word. and the lyrics i like the most, have always liked the most, are john mayer’s. and probably the lyric i love the most, because it is constantly becoming more and more true:

if you wanna know the moment
i knew that i was still alone
i found i’d never learned your number
i only stored it in my phone.
~john mayer, tracing

yesterday anna, laurie and i went to the zoo. and it was kinda rainy and a little cold. and the moment i put on an oversized sweatshirt and sweat pants and sat down with a hot cup of almond tea, i felt like my soul sighed. my entire being just felt rested and safe and warm. and that is how i feel when i listen to john mayer. i feel rested, safe and warm. i have a playlist on itunes called “aaaa” {just so it will be at the top} and i often listen to it while laying in bed with the lights off and candles lit, staring at the stars on my ceiling. sometimes i cry and sometimes i just lay there and let myself feel safe in john mayer’s voice.

these are the songs on that playlist {which i always put on shuffled repeat, starting with free fallin}

  • free fallin {live}
  • stop this train {live}
  • home life {live}
  • quiet
  • man on the side
  • the heart of life {live}
  • in your atmosphere {live}
  • wheel
  • tracing
  • split screen sadness
  • slow dancing in a burning room {village sessions acoustic version}

#2. sequins

i have ALWAYS loved shiny, glittery things. always. and you know what? i spent most of my childhood/adolescence taking dance classes, which meant i got to wear shiny, glittery things. exhibits a and b.

that’s me on the bottom left, with the sequins tap outfit. and me on the right with my shiny green shirt. we were the 7 dwarfs.

but lately i just think about sequins ALL. THE. TIME. and i see a pair of pants and go “i wish you had sequins all over you” or i contemplate wearing a dress and find myself apologizing for liking it less because it has no glitter.

and there’s a fairly good chance that i’ve spent countless hours over the past two weeks looking at online stores and adding lots of shine to my online shopping cart. unfortunately it will all stay in my online shopping cart and will never make it to my house. but maybe someone can teach me how to sew sequins on every piece of clothing i own.

TWOsday – September 20th, 2011

20th September 2011 | dinner, everyday life, TWOsday | 0 comments

Simple. Two things I love.

#1. CRIMINAL MINDS.

I absolutely CANNOT WAIT for the new season of Criminal Minds to start. They are my faves.

#2. ENCHANTED.

“Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” ~G.K. Chesterton.

I cannot imagine anybody NOT loving this movie. Let’s discuss the best part of the movie, the part where they are dancing and Jon McLaughlin is singing. and then McDreamy {he gets to keep that title because he is the absolute perfect Prince Charming, am I right???} starts singing quietly while he is dancing, and butterflies fly all around your insides because earlier he said he doesn’t sing or dance. Oh man. And her clothes! and her hair! All I want is hair like Giselle’s. and dresses like hers too, while we’re at it. I wish I was a real-life Disney Princess.

So hey in addition to Tuesdays being TWOsdays, it’s also the day I’ve agreed to make dinner for my family. and I know you want to know what I made.

I’ve tried finding cookbooks, but I can’t find any with enough pictures. and I wish that was a joke, but it’s not. So I’m reduced to blog recipes. Which is alright with me. Tonight I made crispy chicken with creamy italian sauce and bowtie pasta. Say that 5 times fast. The recipe is from Jamie Cooks It Up.

In case you were wondering, I’m not necessarily the best cook in the world but i’m trying. I’d probably be better if I had an apron.

For some reason making dinner tonight seemed to take forever. From start to finish it was an hour and a half. I think I’m just slow.

I admire people who can take step-by-step pictures of cooking in a strategic way. They somehow make cooking look really awesome and magical. My pictures just look like I am about to make recipe flashcards. Oh well.

So in addition to the chicken and the pasta, we had asparagus just like the last time I made dinner.. and just like that picture. We would have had it regardless of the picture, because I love asparagus like you would never believe.

The end result:

and what’s dinner without dessert? Luckily I had a recipe for frozen bananas hanging around on pinterest, so I went ahead and made those.

Remember how I said that I wish I was a real-life Disney Princess?

Here’s one {there’s plenty of them!} reason why I am nothing like a real-life Disney Princess.

My mom needed to get gas and asked me to go with her. So I grabbed some flip flops and went to the gas station wearing this.

…I know, right? I am pretty classy. I wish I could say that I just sat in the car, but I actually went in the gas station and got hot chocolate.. because did you know that gas station hot chocolate is pretty delicious?

Sorry about the mess of my bathroom. It was on my list of things to do today, but instead I spent about 3 hours playing the piano. Priorities, I guess.  Also, tomorrow I am starting a challenge. You know, another one of those blog prompting challenges that I like starting but never finish? One of those. :)

ps this is going on my Christmas list… if I can hold out that long:

TWOsday – September 6th, 2011

6th September 2011 | TWOsday | 0 comments

I always think of doing twosdays on Wednesdays, so I feel very fortunate that today is TUESDAY and I remembered!

Two things I love.

#1.  Having my fingernails painted.

You can’t tell but I was trying to channel my inner lion or something. It’s kind of hard to see that my nails are a nice purple color. There’s probably an official name to the color, but I’ll call it “a nice purple color.”

Growing up a compulsive nail biter, I never even attempted to paint my fingernails. Last year, I read that a great way to stop biting your nails was to paint them bright colors. So last year during my travels, Lauren and I went and got our nails done. Mine were {naturally} hot pink. Since then, my nails have been just plain short. Not disgustingly short, but just short.

My nails haven’t been painted all summer because of camp life. But yesterday morning at Mei-Ling’s, I painted my nails. I already chipped the nail polish playing the piano today, but it’s so exciting to have my nails painted.

#2. Seattle, Washington
Being away from the northwest has given me a deeper appreciation for it. And although I really love Portland, with every ounce of my little heart, I do love Seattle as well.

It’s weird how cities have personalities. Walking the streets of San Francisco one day I noted that inside of big cities they all tend to feel the same. But if you look close enough or are quiet enough to let the streets do some talking, they all have very distinct personalities. and I like Seattle’s. I can’t wait to be able to spend more time there than I have in awhile.
