{3/365 – dreams}

first of all, nobody called me out on the fact that i put january 2nd, 2011 for yesterday’s blog title. oh well.

today was a special day. today darren criss debuted on broadway.  and so i’ve got a lot of emotions inside of me, because someone’s dreams are coming true, and their dream coming true was in the ny times.

since october i’ve done a lot of thinking about dreams. i don’t really know if i have any, which is a sad truth. every time i think “that would make an excellent dream,” i get overwhelmed by the dream-iness of it and want to scale it down, to bring it back within reach. but today i’ve had a fresh air of clarity around me, as i’ve walked around thinking “darren criss is probably freaking out right now,” or “i bet darren criss’s parents are so nervous for him,” or “is he seeing all of these tweets? he is so adored.” and i realized that dreams are big. “dream big” is a false idea, because if dreams are not big then they are not dreams; they are goals.

tonight i saw all of the pictures and stories of his opening night. and i am so excited for him. and for us, and the world. because right now all around the world people are declaring dreams and people are realizing dreams. some are in the form of a marriage proposal or a new car or finishing a marathon, and some are doing a little song and dance in front of a sold out crowd. but they’re happening. and we’d all better jump on board before we are 60 and wishing we’d spent our lives dreaming instead of drowning.

what are your dreams?

I am a sucker for magazines. and the things they say. and I read recently in some magazine that if you want to have nice hair, you should put plenty of mousse in it before you go to bed {making it all crunchy} because it will loosen by the morning. And since I am so desperate for my hair to not look like I stuck my finger in a light socket I decided to try it. Except I’m starting to think that perhaps it was a tip for people with curly hair, not “frizzy, bumpy hair.” So this is what I currently look like:

{that is my “this probably will not work out too well” face}
A few weeks ago we went to Costco. I successfully avoided any and all excessive purchases until the very last aisle, where I saw a three pack of this Starbucks Hot Chocolate:

Clearly there are four boxes there and I only got 3. I got the salted caramel, peppermint & toasted marshmallow. For $10! On Starbucks.com, one box is $6.49 .. so clearly I got a good deal.

I tell you this because I just made the peppermint hot cocoa and it is delicious. You should buy some for the winter… and invite me over to drink it, I am just saying.

I wish I could tell you that I am not angry that TommyK has the #1 high score for “Hey Soul Sister” on the Glee Karaoke app and the user “stephanieamber” has the #2, 3, 4 & 5 spots. Unfortunately that would be a lie. and I also wish I could tell you that after I typed that sentence I definitely did not go in the living room and sing it twice more in hopes of gaining the #1 spot again. But that would be a lie as well.

Suddenly it’s 1 am and I’m still awake. Today I made a list of my dreams. Big dreams. and I made a list of end years resolutions, small steps towards big dreams. and tomorrow I plan on diving in headfirst. First order of business: brush up on my tap dancing. This dare to dream thing is fun.
